'Now MR ZIPPY are what you call high quality punk rock. Hailing from Bristol, they sounded a tad like 7 SECONDS playing BIGWIG songs, with half the speed and twice the melody. I totally loved every minute of their enthralling set, and found the half-hour they played wonderfully refreshing. This is a band not content to simply hold back their talent and rely on the same hackneyed old GREENDAY riffs to drive their songs - they want to do it all their own way. And you can forget about basic three power chord structures and shouting with MR ZIPPY; there was some quite intricate guitar work going on there, showcasing the band's overwhelming ability not only as noble pop-punk song-writers, but also as talented musicians. I just can't wait to see them again'. Taken from Pastepunk.com Review by "Slick" Nick Smith

Right then, where do we begin? Not at the beginning as many of you may think, but in the here and now. Mr.Zippy, the West Country Punks, have recently signed to Golf Records and their debut album, 'What You Are Like Says A Lot About The Kind Of Person You Are' is about to be re-released in April 2002, featuring the 8 original tracks from the self-financed debut, plus 4 additional tracks, 3 of which were released on a strictly limited edition 7" single in 2001. The album, originally recorded and mixed in 1998 in just under 30 hours and for only £500, is being re-mastered and given new artwork, and will be available on general release for the first time, having previously only been sold at the bands shows and through a number of independent record stores and distros.

The band was started in 1993 by friends Jon Burlinson (guitar) & Mads (vocals). The first few years of the band can be a difficult story to tell. In brief, shows were played and many members came and went. In 1995 Pete 'Jam' Jennings joined on drums, followed by Daryl Barrett-Cross on Bass in 1997. The first demos were recorded in 1997 as a four piece before the introduction of Greg Pearson on Guitar in early 1998. The band spent the early part of 1998 writing the songs for the album and following a frustrating delay; the album was finally released in 1999. Mr.Zippy then found themselves playing at any venue across the UK that would put them on. Following the departure of Daryl in June 2001, and with help from friends Stef Snowden and Hambis De Laney, Mr.Zippy have now hooked up with Frank of now defunct emo-punks The Merics.

Mr.Zippy have booked their own shows and arranged their own tours around the UK and even toured Japan in 2001 off their own backs - yes, this can be done and Mr.Zippy are proof of this. They don't give a fuck about what people say and will usually turn this to their advantage by playing off this with a healthy dose of humour; something that is frowned upon by so many so called punks. The 'punker than thou' attitude is something the band hates most about the UK scene. Many sections of the scene feel that punk can only be political, it can only by serious and that under no terms can punk be enlightening, fun or even down right fucking hilarious. The band proves that you can have fun and at the same time have a more serious edge by supporting causes such as the Plea For Peace and the Drop The Debt Campaign.

Mr.Zippy love life, love punk and at the end of the day believe life is for living!

So with an optimistic out look on life - Mr.Zippy are a positive band with a positive message - enjoy!
