There's 2 things you can usually guarantee from a Lightyear gig, sweat and nakedness, and this gig was no exception. First up were Cotton Weary, who I unfortunately missed due to the shockingly bad railway service, the head of Connex should be strung up by his balls. Anyway, enough of the railways, back to the gig. I entered the garage just as Twofold were starting their set. They looked like an American Emo band, with tight T shirts and floppy hair. But images are often deceiving. They blasted through a short set of angry punk with melodic breakdowns, good stuff. Next up were 5 Knuckle, a band I rate very highly, a band who have stuck to their morals and refused to change their sound for anyone. They mix political lyrics with lyrics about past experiences and life to good effect. However, they were unfortunately not on top form tonight. The band recently had a guitar and amp stolen, so were playing with borrowed/old guitars. Sal (guitarist) was plagued by snapping strings, during the set he had to change 3 strings, this ate into set time, meaning they got through less songs. However the band, especially Dan, were full of energy. Highlight for me was 'Sleep Easy,' lots of crowd participation during this one. Then was the moment that the crowd had been waiting for, Lightyear. They walked/staggered onto the stage looking a little (lot) drunk, to rapturous applause from the crowd. They opened with several new songs from their "Chris' Gentlemans hairdresser and Railway bookshop" album, including 'Life Jacket, Water Wings,' 'Twat out of Hell,' and my personal favourite 'Nuff Cuts.' Later on in the set they played some older songs from their "Call of the Weasel Clan" album. Songs like 'Blindside' 'Spotcheck' and 'Kid Dynamite' were crowd favourites and had many people singing along. The mixture of new and old songs pleased new and old fans alike. Lightyear were doing well, they had played at least half an hour without getting naked, must be a record for them. But then Chaz decided he was a little hot, and decided to take his clothes off, cheers Chaz. He was quickly followed by Neil, d later some over eager naked fans, all good fun. It is a shame Lightyear are splitting at the end of this month, they are a band who have gained a loyal following, and have just begun making a name for themselves. But, they were having to live on very little money, and touring has got the better of them, they are off to pursue their dreams now, and I wish them well. Lightyear are a band who will be sorely missed by many people.
