Oh yes, that’s right Alt-UK lovers – another CD from those loveable Kentish rogues #1 Defender has been created! Upon receiving this I was of course expecting to find some top notch, pure class Emotional Hardcore – and when it started to play in my CD changer I was definitely not disappointed – this is everything I expected from the band and more!

There are five tracks on this EP which carry on from where they left off with their single, ‘Shattered Dreams’ – with Emotional Hardcore music which is upbeat, fun to listen to and like nothing else that any other bands in the scene have to offer! #1 Defender with their 2 previous CDs showed me this – and this CD is no exception to the rule as this band are one who make music however they want to, not conforming to any common trends. There are some great tunes on display here but my favourite of them all has to be the tremendously thought out song ‘The Darkside Of Beautiful.’ This song has been intelligently written, with truly inspirational lyrics, some amazing guitar riffs, blinding bass lines, and drum beats which fit the music perfectly. This is an absolutely amazing track – there is no denying it! If this track was to appear on a popular music channel such as Scuzz or Kerrang then it would almost certainly shoot to the top straight away as it is just one of those tracks that you cant hate – it is just so well written and full of energy. I am sure that this would be a great one live, combining heartfelt vocals, with strong shouty ones, creating the perfect blend. If I was a member of the band then I would be extremely pleased with myself having contributed something to this track as it is the sort of tune which will inspire a new generation – it truly is perfect in every way possible.

All of the tracks on this CD seem to have come out perfectly – I don’t know how this band manage to do it but with every step they take they always seem to come out trumps. They have certainly progressed since the early days of ‘Brodie’ and the first self released CD, ‘The Lana Lang Effect’ and are now a mature, highly inspirational band of awesome musicianship. #1 Defender certainly do now how to pen a fine tune now and I am sure that there will be plenty of EPs to follow this one – and hopefully one day this band will finally release an album as they have proved that they can hold the attention of the listener with a 5 track CD, but can this band withstand the test of time and please with a 10+ track?! I am sure that the answer to this question is yes, and I hope to see them try this very soon.
