Squad 69
Back in 1994 Edel amd Kate got together and performed as ‘Bird Squad,’ supporting
various punk and metal bands in dingy pubs in East Devon. The following year
they escaped off to London. In 1996 Jason arrived with a drum machine, and a
cheap guitar. In 1997 they formed there own record label which is NvS Records
Worldwide, and on this label they released their debut 12” ‘Shadowstalking,’ which
earned them encouraging reviews and airplay on European radio. As a result of this
they found Lady Liz, an Essex girl. Then Agi joined the band just in time to do
their first British radio interviews, and after a few gigs he left and joined Mika
Bomb. After all this they released a few cd’s, ‘Overchill’ and ‘Channel 5,’ and
in between the two the website was launched. The Ice Maiden, a South London biker
chick and bassist/sound engineer joined in 1999 but she also left in the same year.
Edel and Jason then moved the band back to the West Country! In July 2000 they decided
to change the bands name to Squad 69 which was sensible, as it had been the web address
since February 1999. Brother Dave arrived in early 2001. Dave came, and went, and the
band released a new cd entitled ‘Ev’rything Sucks’ which obtained single of the week at
www.playlouder.com. In October 2001 Squad 69 started their first UK tour, and had Andy
from Bikeshed playing away on guitar. During the tour Carly joined as a dancer and as
the bands deck master. The line up continued to change in 2002 when Leni White took
over as lead vocalist, Edel went back to playing guitar, Andy Travis Baker started
drumming and Jason changed from guitar to bass. This band like horror movies, cartoons,
grubby loud motorcyclists and drinking shorts. They can currently be found around
Glastonbury, in South West England.
